North Korean attack on South Korea pushes China's patience

It is only weeks since China's leaders commemorated the 60th anniversary of its entry into the Korean War and the "friendship established in battle" with the North.
But the last week's events demonstrate that its neighbour and ally is more often a source of frustration than sympathy these days. Indeed, Beijing's cautious response to the artillery attack – refusing to ascribe blame and calling on all sides to show restraint – should not be mistaken for approval.
"Of course they [Chinese leaders] will be angry. But they are angry in their hearts – not publicly," said Shi Yinhong, professor of international relations at Renmin University in Beijing. "It is hard to find the delicate balance between relations with the North and the South. It is also hard to balance international expectations and China's trait of not openly condemning or pressing North Korea hard," added Zhu Feng, professor of international relations at Peking University, though he warned that Beijing's patience would run out if the North continued to act provocatively.
China is the North's major ally, providing as much as 90% of its energy and up to 45% of its food on some estimates. It is also a permanent member of the security council, allowing it to veto resolutions. It has more influence over the North than any other state: a useful card in its hand as a regional and global player. But there are limits to how it can use it unless it is willing to risk regional instability, the North's collapse, a flood of refugees along the lengthy border between the countries and potentially a unified peninsula.
"The Chinese reaction is unhappy, unhappy, unhappy. It damages the economy of the region and this is what matters for China. But they don't have much leverage," said Dr Andrei Lankov, an expert on the North at Kookmin University in Seoul. "has a choice between an unruly North which makes provocations and an unstable North which will collapse. [The former] is clearly the lesser evil."
China has, in the past, slapped down the North in public. But analysts suggest Beijing does not believe such measures are effective and does not want to damage relations with the North, already resentful of Beijing's increasing ties with Seoul – trade between China and the South reached $140bn last year; in comparison, that with the North was worth less than $3bn in 2008. Shi argued that Beijing's stance towards the North in the last year – increasing investment and showing support for the succession process – made it less likely than ever that it would criticise the North.
"They don't want to give the US any excuse to be militarily involved in the area and that is one of the reasons they are not engaged more fully through the UN in a sanctions regime," added Smith.
Besides, the Chinese might point out, switching carrots for sticks has not proved an effective strategy for the United States and South Korea. Smith argued that the North felt pushed into a corner because Seoul and Washington were not negotiating with it.
"They don't see that their interests can be pursued in almost any forum except discussions with China," she said.

  1. 1. No. This is so as by attacking South Korea, they are worsening the relationship between North and South Korean which would then lead to war which would cause many people to die.

2.A nuclear North Korea is a threat to both Japan and South Korea. Also, if there is war resulting from the conflict, it would also affect countries which import goods from South Korea. There would be conflict between US and China as US support South Korea while China support North Korea, which would lead to conflicts, thus affecting the world.

3.Due to the attack on South Korea, some of the goods are unable to be imported to Singapore which would raise the price of the remaining goods in Singapore, affecting both me and Singapore.

4.Singapore can act as the mediator and try to create peace between the two Koreas.

  2. 1.No this would only enraged south korea and usa and result into war between the countries. Anti USA country may take advantage of this situation and join north korea and possibly attack USA and with their combined force and USA current weak finacial status USA could loss this war faster than the other country could sent trops to help them, with the fall of USA, many of the other country will fall and an some country may join the side of north korea and it may end up in a world war three

2.North Korea if they managed to fully create the nuclear bomb may bomb USA and affect the countries near to USA and when USA fire nuclear bomb back to north korea it may affect us who are near to north korea

    3. This argurment could result into economic lost as importation from south korea and exportation to south korea may be lost.

4.singapore could sent some ambassador to north and south korea and could adopt a more friendly tune instead of the threatening tune that the US are adopting. singapore could also import some items from a north korea so that nouth korea can trust in their sincerity

  3. 1) I do not think that North Korea should attack South Korea because war would bring nothing but pain, suffering and meaningless deaths. This will also make the relationship between North Korea and South Korea worse and none of them will benefit from this.

    2) If North Korea attacks USA, there will probably be chaos everywhere. When there is war between them, the goods they produce and sell will probably not be sold out anymore and this would affect a lot of people, causing starvation and killing many people.

    3) This conflict between South Korea and North Korea may affect Singapore as the things that they transport to us will probably not be transported anymore, causing Singapore to have fewer goods to be sold, affecting the economy.

    4) I think Singapore should try to smooth it out between them but also keeping a safe distance with each other as we don not wish to create more trouble.

  4. 1) Of course not because they were once a country and only broke up because they shared different views on how to govern people. It would also lead to war and cause even greater suffering for civilians for both countries.

2)It would affect countries around them like China and Japan the US might also be affected. And when North Korea aggravate the Us, the consequences would be dire and unimaginable.

3)It would affect Singapore in many ways because if there is war, some of the Singapore soldiers would be sent to help one of the countries causing deaths and sadness for the families of the soldiers.

4)Singapore could send an ambassador to both countries to help convince them that hatred would lead to more hatred and that they should stop all those nonsense.

  5. 1)No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as it would worsen their bilateral friendship and soon North Korea would be cut off from the rest of the countries. In addition, it would lead to more conflicts as well as hinder their country's development.

2)Both the North and the South Korean would affect China, the United States and Japan, the three greatest economy powers. China has quite a strong tie with the North Korea while the United States and Japan condemns North Korea's behaviour. Both the North Korea and the United States possesses nuclear threats and refuses to negotiate with each other. The world will be in a crisis once the Korean war starts.

3)Singapore will go into crisis as the three greatest economical countries would not export the goods as their own countries are also in need of it. Since Singapore has superb friendship within most of the countries it will soon be a time when Singapore takes its sides as it cannot help both resolve the tension. As for me, it is within my reach and I am indifferent to this subject and the most I can only see the outcome of the result though it will impact everybody in a way or another. Take for example the prices of food will rise in times of a war.

4)the most Singapore can help to resolve the matter is to send an senior official to hold talks on the ways to resolve the tension and advice them that violence begets violence.

  6. 1)North Korea should not attack South Korea as it will worsen the relationship between them. When there is a war, many people will be killed and some may be affected as shops will not be opened, therefore people will not be able to buy things like food and there will also not be electricity. Schools will be closed and children will not be able to go to school to study
2)Goods from South Korea will not be able to be shipped to other countries. People from other countries will not be able to buy things imported from South Korea.
3)Goods will not be imported from South Korea, therefore Korea products will be more expensive and the price of food sold at a Korea restaurant will rise affecting the number of people going to the restaurant, some restaurant may close down because of this. Also, people will not be able to travel to Korea for holiday.
4)Singapore can work out a plan that will benefit both South and North Korea if they stop the conflict.

  7. 1)Obviously no.It is because it will worsen ties between them.Just because one felt that capitalism is better for the country while the other thinks that dictatorship is much better, does not mean war between them.It create chaos within the country, including casualties, deaths, damage, and even political instability. Why risk such impact just to unite korea? If they carried on like the way they were, not tiggering each other, there will be peace throughout the country.

2)It would alert allies of south korea, such as USA, to respond by sending help to south korea and assisting them in war.Japan being the production and supply base for US troops in Korea,it may also assist USA in helping south korea suppressed north korea.north korea's biggest ally, china, would also be on the alert in case north korea is in need of help.the world economy will also fluctuate. The outcome of the war may be so devastating that nuclear arms may be use.Eventually, it will become a nuclear war.

3)Due to the war, daily neccesties ,such as food, will increased in price.Hyperinflation may occur, hence number of theft will be on the rise.As to how will it affect me will be that nothing may change in my daily routines, not really affecting me.

4)Advisors may be sent to the indivisual part of korea and suggest how this conflict can be solve calmly. However, best is that singapore does not invove itself into such everlasting and neverlasting conflicts.

  8. 1) North Korea would have made such a move must had their own reasons. Of course, as a fan of South Korean's K-Pop as well their well known TV dramas, I strongly disapprove of North Korea's actions. However, there are a few likely reasons that might have spurred North Korea's actions. Firstly, North Korea might be afraid that the rising South Korean economy may assist South Korea's attack on the North one day as it will be much stronger and technologically advanced than them. Secondly, it is also possible that North Korea's natural resource are running out, and that they have to conquer the South so as to continue their Communist Regime and not to be laughed at when they fall. However. the reasons above are not exhaustive, and the motive behind this horrific North Korean attack might just cause another chaos in the near future.

    2) As we have learnt in our textbooks that North Korea 'represents' Communism while South Korea 'represents' Democracy, it is almost predictable that if North Korea were to attack their counterparts in the South, the chaos would not take long to evolve from a regional conflict to a full scale world war. First off, USA, the backbone of democracy, would surely not hesitate to stand and fight against the invading North Koreans if the North are unwilling to cooperate. Peacekeeping troops from all around the world will also soon join in the fight as they are obliged to help USA as members of the UN. North Korea would probably receive help from their neighbor, China. However, after reading the article, it seems that the support North Korea is receiving from China is slowly declining and whether China will come to North Korea's aid would be a huge question for both the North Korea as well as China itself.

    3) As mentioned above, this dispute will most likely affect every country in the world, and Singapore as well. Singapore itself would never sent troops to fight in a war, but we might, if called upon by the UN as Singapore is a member state and would be obliged to sent troops to aid the South Koreans. I feel that the conflict might not have a large impact on us, as we are so far away and we do not have to fight the war in our country.

    4) As we are a small country, I feel that Singapore might not be able to contribute much physically as we ourselves are already not self sustainable. However, we might be able to provide intellectual support by possibly lending a hand in thinking of solutions or peace treaties that will probable satisfy both counties. Else, Singapore can also provide better technology to the South Korea so as to give them an advantage in case of an out break of war.

  9. 1. This should never happens. If it does, there will be wars, casualties and bloodshed among thhe countries. Many innocent lives will be endangered

    2. Many productions will be stopped, thus imported goods may have to be terminated. And the stocks may gone down drastically and economical crisis may rise again.

    3. We will not able to get out necessaries from counties that are taking part in the war. This will affect our daily life. And we may need to support countries and sent out solders for reinforcement.

    4. We can all send each countries's Representatives and talk things out instead of war. If we can come to the agreement, that will be the best.

  10. Q1:No, because war is always the last solution to all situations. A war might just make the world chaotic with instabilities everywhere. Since they are also from the same country, the should unite and try to solve their problems with a method that will not cause distructions and unhappiness to either sides instead of having war. Which will make their own resident suffer.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1.No. I don't think North Korea should attack South korea as when there is war, everyone will suffer. Men would be requested to go for national service to fight the war;wives and children will worry for their family members, leaving them without a peace of mind to work, and therefore the quality of work will not be there. When there's war more destruction will be caused and as a result causing more harm to the environment. The war might also not be the right way to solve things, as war will cause the economy to go down, the population of people might drop due to the killing, many natural sights will be destroyed and hence less tourists would want to go to the country.
    2. When war starts, people will all either prepare for war, stay at refuge centres or stay at home to ensure their safety. Hence, no one would want or dare to go for work, as work stops, no products are produced and the company and the country will not earn money. Leading to the closure of many companies, which will lead to the downcast of the economy. Without the products being produced, the products cannot be sent to other contries, hence the other countries will not be able to have these products and companies in other conutries who are depending solely on these products will close down too.
    3. This will affect Singapore as there are no goods coming in. The government cannot collect tax. As there are no goods coming in, what we have in Singapore will be what everyone in Singapore will be depending on. In a way, it would be small quantity, large usuage. Hence, the goods will be limited and therefore, causing the rise in prices. When that happens, the poorer people will not be able to afford.
    4. I think Singapore can try to have nice chats with the government of both parties and try ro see if there is any win-win situation. If necessary, we can assist the UN to prevent this tragic war to happen.

  12. 1) No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. War creates evitable and redundant consequences. War is endless, pointless and meaningless. Both North and South Korea should actually work together since they are both korea.

2)If there is a war, people will suffer. Traders will not do tradings in korea and the economy will get worsen. Products are not able to be imported nor exported.

3)If goods are not being able to be imported to be singapore, prices of the basic neccessities will increase the the poorer people will suffer.

4)Singapore's governments can act as the mediator and organize meetings for them to compromise each other till a result comes out.

  13. 1)No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as war is very destructive. Their effects degrade both human lives and the environment tragically.
2)It has created a strong impact on the world's economy as global equities, commodities and the euro came under heavy selling pressure as investors sought safety in the dollar and the “core” government bonds of the US, Germany and the UK.
3)The altercation has impacted Singapore's investment in Korea and I will have to pay a higher price for imported goods.
4)Singapore can send a mediator to speak to both leaders and help them put aside their differences in order to create a harmonious relationship between them.

  14. Q1. No, i dun think that there should be a war between North and South Korea. If there is a war, more problems will be added to the situation. Like allies of North and South Korea will help and hence siding on their neighbour, making allies of different side to be enemies too. Also, the war will cause lots of destruction as well as natural resources wasted. They should find a diplomatic solution such that both sides are sastisfied. Thus having a war is not a good solution to the problem.

  15. 1. I think North Korea should not attack South Korea will worsen the relationship between the two countries, which might result to wars between the two countries. People in both countries will also be affected.

    2. As China have a strong tie with North Korea whilethe United States have a strong tie with South Korea, China and the United States will be the first ones that are affected. Both China and the United States are two important countries in the global economics, therefore it will result in global crisis.

    3. When there is war, people will stay at homes for safety reasons and not go for work, which will in turn result in no production,so zero good will be transported overseas to countries like Singapore. It will result in large usage and small quantity, so the price of the goods will rise allthe way up till we cannot afford.

    4. Singapore can sent representatives to both parts of Korea and try to talk things out, the best is to make them agree to stop the war as many homes and lifes will be destroyed if a war breaks out.

  16. 1.No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as it is totally unnecessary and it will only serve to aggravate the already weakened relationship between the two Koreas. This might eventually lead to war, and many problems would crop up, such as People not being able to go to work to earn money, which would then cause people to be jobless as they might be retrenched and stuff like that. War would also cause deaths and will also harm the environment.

2.The North Korean and South Korean War would prevent South Korean Goods to be shipped to other parts of the world, which would cause many companies to be closed down and many workers would also be retrenched and jobless. If North Korea were to attack South Korea, South Korean's allies, the United States of America would surely not hesitate to defend South Korea. Countries in the UN might also be called onto to fight the North Koreans. As the article states, China is becoming increasingly annoyed with North Korea making Provocations, so it would be uncertain whether China would go to NOrth Korea's aid should they plan to launch a war against South Korea.

3.The Dispute between the two countries would probably affect most countries of the world. Singapore's troops might be called upon to fight against North Korea should they launch a war with South Korea as Singapore is also part of the UN. Despite all this, It should not affect us very badly as Singapore did not provoke North Korea in any way.

4.Since Singapore is such a small country with very little manpower, it is obvious that we should not take part in the war between the two countries, should there be one. Rather, we should help to end the conflict by signing peace treaties that would satisfy both countries.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. Because of North Korea's aggression, 2 military soldiers and several innocent civilians and soldiers were wounded. This reckless action has angered the South Koreans and in turn aggravated the tension between the two Koreas.

    2. The North & South Korean conflict has a huge impact on the world. If its core demands were not met, North Korea might threaten to target critical economic infrastructure such as refineries in South Korea and allies to South Korea such as Japan and USA might be primary war targets in the event that a shooting war erupted. Japan, China and South Korea are highly energy interdependent. Market responses to a North Korean threat might include equity market declines, crude oil and oil product price increases, and higher insurance costs for shippers delivering oil to South Korean refineries. As a result, this might trigger a global oil crisis and hamper the world economies. In the worst-case scenario, the North may launch its nuclear warheads on the South, reigniting a second Korean War which will surely end all economic prospects in Northeast China and potentially trigger third world war.

    3. Import of South Korean goods will decrease dramatically or ceases altogether. Prices of South Korean goods and products will rise and Singaporeans will have to pay more for Korean made goods and products. Travelling to South Korea will drastically reduce due to the fear of war and in turn, travel agents in Singapore will experience a decrease in business revenue. In the light of fast escalating tensions in the Korean Peninsula, it may be prudent for Singapore to review its future investments in the region till the political situation has stabilized.

    4. Unlike powerful countries such as US, Britain, Russia, Japan and China, Singapore may not have the most powerful voice to resolve the conflict in its own strength. However, Singapore, a member of the United Nations, may volunteer as an independent mediator or peace ambassador in the negotiation process between the two Koreas. In the event that Singapore decides to take up this important role, the Singapore government must provide assurance to its citizens that Singapore will not end up as a war target.

  18. 1. No, North Korea should not attack South Korea. One of the many reasons is because it would affect both country's human population and economy. Also, with South Korea's rising popularity due to the "KPOP WAVE", it would affect the fans all over the world. Not only will the people from either countries be affected, people that are from China, America and many other places will be too. With war going on, people from North or South Korea cannot leave their country and trading would not be allowed. Thus, their economy would fall.
    2. People from all over the world would be concerned over the issue and they might help out. If more and more countries disagree with each other, a bigger war might occur and people might be killed.
    3. Singapore would not be able to trade with South korea and this might cos an economic downfall for both parties. Travelling to South Korea would also be difficult and Singaporeans would not be able to enjoy the attractions or places of interestthere, like the theme park, 'Lotte World' or the houses the ancient Koreans live in.
    4. Singapore could send an ambassador or a senior in affair management or comunnication to North or South Korea. He or she may be of help to settle the situation.

  20. 1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. I feel that there is no need for them to have wars as it will only lead to unnecessary deaths of many and disputes. No one would be happy from wars and many innocent people have to suffer because of it.

    2. This may lead to other countries having fights among each other as each of them would have different point of views. This would lead to more unnecessary wars which would only harm those that are innocent.

    3. This may lead to Singapore not being able to import goods from Korea.

    4. Singapore could send some people over to try to talk things out and stop the war. This would be much better than them having a war and us not being able to do anything to help.

  21. 1.@everyone
Looking back to the days when there was the Korean War, it ended in a ceasefire, not a peace treaty. And after the South Korean warship Cheonan was sunk not long ago, military tensions has soared between the two sides. South Korea then began conducting military drills in disputed territory. When the North warned the South to halt its drills, it refused and started firing artillery into disputed waters. This was when North Korea retaliated and started attacking the South in their island in disputed territory. Personally, I feel that the North Korea should not have attacked the South, but the South aren't in the right either. Refusing the North's demands just results in more tension. By saying this, we can go back to the time when the South's warship Cheonan was sunk. South had all their fingers pointing at the North, which was denied over and over again. All this creates more and more confusion, and creates an endless cycle which both sides will continuously retaliate until one waves the white flag. This is not good for both sides, inside and outside of their land.
Even if North Korea declares war, it will be difficult for them to last as they have a weak economy and problems over power transfer. South Korea and North Korea should just cooperate together and find a way to solve the problem, maybe signing a peace treaty etc.

    I think I'm a bit off topic am I?

  22. 1. No, North Korea should not attack South Korea even though they are unhappy as attacking each other will cause many people to get hurt and may cause people to lose their homes. North Korea and South Korea are still Korea. They should be living in harmony instead of fighting with each other.
    2. The fight damages the economy of the region. Other countries might take sides and more countries will be unhappy with each other, leading to a war which is more severe.
    3. The attack on South Korea might prevent trade between Singapore and South Korea, affecting me and Singapore.

4: Singapore can send a mediator and talk with both parties telling them not to fight but sit down and find a solution together.

  24. They definitely should not have a war. If North Korea declares a war,the civilians of the two countries will not be the only people who are suffering from the war. There will be a huge impact on the export of some products that South Korea is famous for such as electrical appliances as well as food and agricultural products. However, the lot who are suffering the most is still the citizens of the two involved countries. The number of casualties, pain and suffering would be hard to imagine as both countries have a huge population. Some damages that the war could do would be so enormous that not even years after the war could Korea be back to its normal state. War is not the best solution to the problems between the two countries.they should try taking other alternatives.

  25. 1) NO. North Korea should not attack South Korea as War can be avoided but injuries and death will not be able to be avoided when War happened. Hence, we should not start a war.

2)As when North and South Korea get into a war, China and United States will be getting involed too. Which in a sense, it will be a world war and world war will cause death and economy down fall in the wide world.

3)This altercation will cause Singapore to be unable to import goods and crops from the 2 countries and even every as countries will like to store crops, food for purposes. Hence may cause to the down fall of Singapore.

4)Singapore should take part in the United Nations's meetings and speak to all the countries of the disadvantages of war and to make them believed in it which may not really stop the war. But the most important thing is that it will be able to allow the countries to think before attacking be it any of the countries.

  26. 1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. By right, North Korea and South Korea make up the whole of Korea, therefore they are the same country. No one benefits during and after a war. Having such internal war, will not lead to a happy conclusion, for war will just continue, and there would be no end. People of both North and South Korea will suffer too, as a result of the warfare.

    2. As there are such conflicts among North and South Korea, there would be people from other countries offering help or assistance or work with either one of them as allies. The greater number of people involved in their dispute may cause things to worsen. If either one of them gets stronger or more concern, the other part of Korea would get jealous or something and might cause greater misunderstandings between North and South Korea. This would in turn result in greater suffering and more innocent people affected due to their disputes.

    3. The economy in Singapore would somehow be affected, as Korea would need resources and everything, thus causing us to lose a trade partner, and there might be an imbalance in our trade suddenly. We might experience such a problem that we will be lacking of certain goods, and many people would not be able to get them anymore.

    4. Singapore can take the initiative and act as a mediator to try to convince them to stop such disputes, by explaining to them how this entire thing could affect every single one of us worldwide. Singapore could try to think up of a win-win solution for both parties, like signing a peace treaty, but on a condition that both parties have to give something rather important to each other to show their sincerity.

  27. 1. No, north korea should not attack the south because war in general is a bad thing. War leads to the unnecessary deaths of a lot of people. Wars also gives the countries paricipating in it a lot of financial problems. Development in countries will also be at a minimal because of the war.
    2. China is supporting the North while the US is supporting the South. China and the US are both very important, financially, to the markets of today. If china's and the US's economy were to collapse due to the war, many more countries will be affected financially.
    3. Singapore's financial market depends a lot on our neighbouring countries, such as North and South Korea. if this countries were to go to war, Singapore will be affected greatly. There is also a US naval base in Singapore and we might be affected.

  29. 1. Definitely not. War could lead to alot of problems. During a war, there is no peace and prosperity in the country. Neighbouring countries are not safe. This will lead to problems such as economical downturn, shortage of food. Many people will die.

    2. Due to the strong ties of the North with China, with China supplying its troops to North Korea, the outcome will be a devastating one. The surrounding countries will also be affected, their people's safety is at a risk.

    3. We're now hoping that the war will be be an international affair. If that happens, we ( the world) is no longer a safe one. Everywhere we go, we walk in fear of dying. Singapore is no longer a safe country. Nowhere is...

    4. I believe that Singapore needs to see the situation in both parties point of view. They see whether Singapore can do anything to propose a win-win solution or compromise for both countries.

  31. 1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. Declaring wars will only lead to more casualties, financial crisis, chaotic situations and instability lives of the Koreans. The war will not end until one of them gives in and is unlikely to end in a short period of time, thus dragging the duration of the war, causing greater harm to Korea and others. In my opinion, war should never be declared no matter what for the sake of world peace. There will definitely be other alternatives to this. It may also have a negative impact on the next generation.

    2. Once China assists North Korea as allies and US assists South Korea, it will lead to a greater war. As countries help their allies in the war, other countries may be involved. More innocent people will be part of the war. There will be more wars and there will definitely be less peace in the society. The situation will get worse and will be difficult to settle it once it starts. If countries declare war against each other, it is going to be disastrous. There will most probably be a major financial crisis.

    3. If war is declared between North and South Korea, they will not trade with Singapore in such a situation. We may not even have imported Korea goods. Prices of the affected goods will increase. The financial crisis will be affected depending on how severe it is.

    4. Singapore could appoint ambassadors to both countries and talk things out with them, try their best to find a solution together and prevent the war. Both countries could give in to each other and sign a peace treaty as a war should never break out. Singapore could also get other countries' ambassadors to be mediators and persuade them not to declare war.

2.If North and South korea might ever end up in a war due to the conflicts between them,it would also affect the other countries around it.If North korea decides to use their nuclear weapons which are highly destructive, it might cause destruction to the countries around South korea too. This,in the end might snowball and cause greater displeasure among all the countries around. In the worst case,it might lead to another world war where there will hardly be any peace and properity.

3.The economy may be affected and the prices of goods from korea might rise due to a shortage as they might be unable to export their goods. This will cause a higher demand for their goods which will affect Singapore and me.

  34. 1. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. It kills many people and will cause lots of grieve and suffering for many especially those whose loved ones died. The South Koreans would be even angrier, and there will be more hatred to the North Koreans and causes more conflicts between the two countries and this does not solve the conflict between the two countries.

    2. US supports South Korea whereas China supports North Korea. US supports South Korea, so it would listen to South Korea's point of view. China supports North Korea, so it would listen to North Korea's point of view. Then, US and China will argue with each other as they get different informations, this also causes the good relationships between different countries to turn bad.

    3. Singapore's economic would not be as good as last time. The price of the North and South Korea products will increase as when they have war, the factories are closed and could not produce the products. This does not impact me much.

  44. I feel the North korea should not have attacked south korea. By doing so, it is showing hostility towards South Korea, incresding tensions between the two nation. Their already bad ties would worsen day by day. Eventually this might lead to war between the 2 nations, killing thousands and costing millions, if not billions, and severely affecting its economy and welfare.
This would also hve a huge impact on the world. As stated in the previous paragreph, there would be a high possibility of a war if the north keeps provoking the South. A war would cost so much money that the country spends more than it can earn. The last resort for the country is that it will loan money from other countries. We are not talking about just a few millions, we are talking about several Billions of dollars. This would undoubtly affect the world's economy adversely, and a repeat of 2010 might occur - Inflation, stock market crashing and the like. Moreover, North Korea is suspected of having nuclear weapons in its arsonal, ultimate weapons of mass destruction. Nuclear bombs are no joking matter, one bomb and entire countries are annihilated.
As ealier stated, the economy would be affected so Singapore would also be affected. Singaporean tourists going to korea would also be affected as the airport would be closed while the country is at war. Singapore would not really be affected so long as Singapore does not get itself involved in the war. Singapore is too fer away to be caught in the crossfire.
The only way Singapore can help is that she can send mediators to the countries to help ease the tension, but this job is better suited for bigger, more influential countries sich as the united states or China.

  48. 1)No. This will result in a worsening of relationship between North Korea and South Korea. Furthermore, allies of the countries, like China and US may also be dragged into this, causing a big deal out of this attack. Eventually, it may lead to a war, and the effects of a war is devastating.

  52. 1. No, North Korea should not attack South Korea. We are all well aware of the impacts of a war, namely economic problems, famine and widespread loss of lives and diseases. This will affect the countries involved and their neighbours. Technology is very advanced these days. There are many nuclear weapons existing around the world nowadays. An all-out war between two countries will lead to a vast amount of casualties, a price that should not be paid becouse of a disagreement between two countries. In my point of view, there are no disagreements that cannot be solved through peaceful talks. Wars exist because of humans' inability to control one's feelings. North and South Korean put away their pride and find a way to compromise without igniting a war.

    2. Korean trade will be greatly affected. During a crisis, countries will only have self-interest. This will cause Korean food products to not be exported as the government has to care about its citizens before others. Not only that, the United Nations(UN) will need to spend time thinking and planning the fastest possible way to solve the problem between North and South Korea. This time can be better spent on other things, such as solving the problem of discrimination and spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS. Tourists who thought of going to South Korea for vacation will also be disappointed as it is not safe at the moment.

    3. These days, many teenagers are into South Korean artistes. With the attack on South Korea, the importation of CDs will be less efficient and fans who want to buy the CDs will be disappointed. Not only that, Korean business, like restaurants ans shops, will find it hard to continue. This is due to the decrease in Korean exports, leading to an increase in prices for Korean products.

    4. Singapore can send humanitarian efforts to South Korea to provide food and medical supplies if the situation worsens. At the moment, as a member of the UN, Singapore should help them in coming up in a way to avoid the war and solve the problem between North and South Korea at the same time.

  53. However much we condemn that act of violence from North Korea, we must also think about why is it so that they choose to use ciolence. They may thinking "Why not? North Korea is just trying to establish its stand, in a way which many people think that its "wrong". We are just using their own methods to acheive a unified country."

    ReplyDelete
  54. 1) No, attacks only should happen under self defence, why attack someone just because of it? Then it is just bringing you trouble. Every person knows that he do not want trouble, nobody wants truble for himself.

    2) Everybody is feeling threatened from the strength that N.Korea have for the nuclear firepower is able to wipe out the existance of mankind, the conflict somehow created political unrest, causing people from all around the world to see them as a threat, but even so, it did not stop them from continuing their conflicts. If it goes on, the economy of Korea will be affected, which will also create some unrest to the other parts of the globe should it have some stop in export, and definitely, import.

    3) The economy of Korean cuisine and the Craze in KoreanPop will start slowing down to a point that it will halt, although it does not impact me that much, it will affect the economy, and it will also make the people lose trust in Korea, either as a holiday destination, or a country of enjoyment.

    4) Actually, I beg to differ, Singapore is unable to help itself in its basic needs, such as food, water, oil, etc. Yes, we do have the power and money, we may also be in the UN, but how can we help a country that can obilerate us in a single click of the 'fire' button? The so called usage of 'peace treaties' or 'peace agreement' will be useless, even if you sign it over and over again, if you do not follow it, there is no sense of using it. Think about it, Singapore can just alleviate the problems in Korea, but the Koreans themselves have to come out and put a stop to all this, either that, or it may result in a full fledged World War III. But that also brings us to another matter N.Korea is facing. China is pushing N.Korea to the limit, they may just snap under pressure. Even if N.Korea takes a step back, if China or S.Korea is going to push forward, we never know when N.Korea will spring an attack to protect its interest. Therefore, even if Singapore is going to send some ambassadors to 'shake some hands' over there, the Koreans have to learn to do it themselves. We cannot be the one always doing the job for them. We can alleviate the situation, but we Cannot stop it. Its up to them. Just shred the idea of peace agreements, stop being so naive to think that signing an agreement is going to help. It will only happen under Normal Circumstances. But if peace treaties are signed just for show, and then they continue their 'practices' to attack, then what is the point? If both parties are willing to take a step back, then it will be better than agreeing to some facade that will just keep everyone in the dark.

  55. 1) North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as it would worsen their relationship and soon North Korea would be cut off from the rest of the countries. War is the last thing that should happen as many will have been killed. However, by attacking South Korea, it seems as though North Korea is trying to challenge South Korea.

    2) As we know war requires a huge sum of money. If the North and South declare war on each other, it may affect the global economy adversely. Major role playing countries like the US and China will most probably step in to help the stop the North from obliterating the South further dampening the economy causing troubles to arise in many smaller nations like Singapore.

    3) As South Korea is experiencing problems, the production and exportation of authentic korean products from Korea may be affected. The prices of these products in Singapore will in turn rise and hence affecting the consumer market and me.

4)As Singaporeis a small country and cannot do much, we can, at the very least, aid the UN in financing operations to South Korea be it in terms of medical, artillery or food products.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 1. Perhaps. Although war should be a last resort used in desperate situations due to its destructive and murderous nature, the many differences between the North and the South, among them ideological, led to conflicts and tension that snowballed with the issue of the tanker that had strayed into dangerous territory, so much so that their argument escalated to the point where it was nearly impossible to reconcile their differences. Perhaps then war would have done some good by bringing their conflict to international attention, thus sparking efforts for negotiations. With help, encouragement and discouragement where appropriate, perhaps the two countries will be peaceful in time.

    2. Because South Korea is a democracy strongly supported by the U.S., and North Korea is a communist state just like China, the argument becomes more complex. It becomes an ideological quarrel, a war between the two superpowers of the world, the old and the rising. Because both parties would battle hard; China not wanting a US presence at its border and vice versa; the region's peace could be disrupted to a large extent.

    3. Firstly, I would worry for the Singaporeans residing in the two Koreas. From Saddam Hussein [recalling Social Studies mterial] we learn that it is not uncommon for dictators to hold hostage citizens of a foreign country so as to gain an upper hand. Not to forget, Kim Jong Il is a dictator, and so is his son, who is likely to succeed.

Secondly, the economy would be affected in some way or another, no matter how slight. I am not sure what our economic ties with South Korea are, and I assume that we have barely any with North Korea, looking at the state of its economy, but no matter what we will suffer, more so if the conflict spreads geographically.

Thirdly, as Singapore is in the region, the war may spread to us and peace may be threatened in Singapore. If that happens then we would have to mobilise our forces and our defence would be tested. However, this is probably too far-fetches judging by the current situation.

    4. Because negotiations are the most likely only thing that can do anything to alleviate the situation, Singapore as an ASEAN member can organise peace talks with the other members, or send diplimats to both parties to discuss in detail what can be done.

  57. 1.Obviously no. As North Korea attacked South Korea, South Korea fought back and sent a fighter jet. These mutual violent retaliations would only lead to mutual sufferings. Many people on both sides may become refugees, both countries' economy may be devastated and therefore posing a threat on Asia's economy.

2.Continuous conflicts between South and North Korea contribute to a treacherous situation as a war may be waged by either side and many other countries will also be involved. For example, the US, China and Japan. Since China is the major ally of North Korea's and the US supports South Korea, the South and North Korean conflicts will always be in the way of the two major countries' cooperation. What is more, nuclear weapons may be used by North Korea as the war escalates and the peace of the world will be profoundly threatened. That will be the last thing that international communities want to see.

3.South Korean's output of major industries will be reduced notably. As a result, we will find it very difficult to buy South Korean products which are quite popular. It will also be unsafe for us to travel in South Korea.

4.Singapore can play a role of mediator and seek for a balance between the relations with South and North Korea. It should help South and North Korea to spot their problems and solve them through peaceful negotiations.

  58. 1.No they should not have. By attacking South Korea, North Korea will put many countries against itself and war might break out because of this attack. If a war breaks out, the USA will definitely go to South Korea’s aid and it will soon become another world war if people are not careful. The world has been avoiding a third world war ever since the last one ended. And with the very advanced technology available now, the damage caused by that war would be unthinkable.
2.Most of the world thinks badly of North Korea and sides South Korea. With North Korea possessing nuclear weapons, the world is wary of North Korea; while in the case for South Korea, most of the world is friendly with it.
3.Singapore’s economy may be affected because Singapore’s income comes from trade too and with South Korea like this, imports from South Korea and exports to South Korea may be affected.

  60. 1.No,they should not as this will only irritate the South as well as North Korea's big brother China. Both China and South Korea benefit from their mutual economic activities and they do not appreciate it when North leaders are unhappy with this. China expect North to be open, tolerant and focusing on national development, not irrational, dictatorial and belligerent.China also want a stable regional environment so that US will have no excuse to interfere.
2.First of all, this badly affect living conditions of the people in peninsula, esp those in the North. Secondly it may cause their respective ally, namely China and US to be involved, which can impose a very dangerous challenge to the world peace.
3.This conflict can have a slight impact on Singapore as it may affect the economic ties between Singapore and South Korea. Once the conflict is escalated into a fullscale war, it may very likely involve China and US, which are two major economic partners of Singapore. South Korea itself is also an important partner for Singapore. As Singapore depends largely on importing food and raw materials, Singaporeans' living conditions will be affected.
4.I think Singapore can help by trying to conduct dialogue between China and US however I do not think this will make a big defference. North Korean leader Kim Junf ll is a dictator who does not believe in strenthening ties or communication with other countries and it is difficult for Singapore to exert pressure on US and China.

  61. 1. No, they should not, when the North attacks the South, many innocent people will get injured or may even get killed. After that, the South will attack on the North, therefore kill even more people. This may even cause a war to start.

    2. When the North and the South fight, it will definitely affect many countries, because when the South attacks the North, it will cause the North to have many refugees and so, China will have to support the North even more and goods sent to other countries will be lesser.

3.When China is not able to send as much goods to other countries, that also includes Singapore, and plus Singapore is very small, it is even harder for us to get noticed. When Singapore doesn't get the right amount of food for everyone, it will also affects me.

  62. 1. it is definitely a no for North Korea to attack South Korea as this will only disrupt the peace and create chaos to the country. Furthermore, not only the people will suffer but also the economy of countries if the war breaks out.

  63. 1.No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. By doing so, the North only worsens their relationship with the South and it also disrupts the peace in both country. Also, by attacking South Korea, North Korea only reduces the probability of having a successful peace talk. If the South decides to attack back, it may result in another war.
2.There will be a global crisis because, should a war start, the USA is very likely to step in to help the South while China will probably help the North. Since the USA and China are big global economies and the fact that wars usually require huge amounts of money, it will be very likely that another global crisis will occur because these two big global economies are investing a lot more money in war.
    3. The prices of goods from South Korea in Singapore will rise due to a shortage since the South is most likely unable to export goods out of the country in war.
    4. I believe the best we can do is to send an ambassador to help the two countries negotiate for peace. However, because the North Korean leader does not believe in strengthening ties with or countries or communicating with them, it may be difficult for Singapore to convince him.

    3. Due to the North Korea's attack, South Korea will not be able to produce as much goods as many innocent people might be killed or injured during the attack and therefore could not go to work. The goods imported to Singapore would be more expensive due to the scarcity of the goods.

    1. I think that North Korea's attack on the South was uncalled for, however, not unexpected. Tension had already escalated after the previous sinking of a South Korean vessel by what the South claimed was a North Korean torpedo. North Korea had rejected the findings. After which, South Korea cut all trade with North Korea as part of measures primarily aimed at striking back at North Korea diplomatically and financially. North Korea responded by severing ties between the countries and announced it abrogated the previous non-aggression agreement . The reason given by the North for the shelling was that it “merely responded to South Korean shells being fired into North Korean territorial waters during the military exercise with the US”. The relations between the two Koreas have been at their worst yet. Most of the disagreements are over border and territory issues. I believe that this was a premeditated attack by the North and cannot be condoned as the casualties of the bombardment of the island of Yeonpyeong included civilians. The implications of the incident may even lead to war, in which the two nations’ major allies, the US and China will be involved, and may even graduate to a world war as more countries get involved . Bloodshed and violence will further strain relations between the North and South. With the political future of North Korea uncertain leading up to the succession of the volatile and tyrannical Kim Jong-il by his son , Kim Jong Un, and with North Korea’s nuclear program, the world should watch the region closely.
With the situation in the Korean Peninsula as serious as ever since the Korean War, a deja vu of the War would be unwise.

    2. I think that the impact of the conflict is very serious, it may even result in a third world war. The North and South have had disagreements over many issues, both ideological and territorial, we do not want history to repeat itself and for there to be a second Korean War. The world has just started to recover from the financial crisis that damaged stock markets worldwide. It is unwise to engage in war as it would cripple the world economy and diplomatic relations between allies of the two countries may collapse. The issue right now is not about who is right or wrong, or which side to take, it is of vital importance to try and resolve tension . Also, China’s booming economy might be affected by regional tension . Relations between the US and China might even be affected as they are the major allies of South and North Korea respectively.

    3. The altercation will affect Singapore’s economy as we rely mainly on trade. Trade with the East Asian region would be affected by the conflict should the two nations break out in war. A war damages relations between countries, and if war in the East Asian region spreads to Singapore, our nation would be greatly affected . As a citizen of the world, I feel that I would be affected by the war as there will be a lot of bloodshed and suffering.

    4. Singapore can assist by being a mediator for the two nations and by promoting peaceful means to resolve tension.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 1) Of course not. There are many other ways to settle disputes other than inflicting attacks on others. This way, it will only bring harm to both sides and neither will benefit from it. They should just have a peace negotiation and settle the disputes that they have without sacrificing innocent blood.

    2) All the trading and manufacturing industries that import korean goods will be affected because of the continuous war. Other countries may not be able to recieve their goods on time, which may result in the citizens' unhappiness with their government. Also, the US needs to spend time and effort to resolve the dispute. This can be spent on more important things, such as the financial problems in the US.

    3) Korea's pop bands have numerous fans throughout the world. If any of them is caught in the war and meets into a mishap, fans worldwide are sure to be furious. This may result in more attacks on Korea, which will worsen the condition.

    4) Singapore can hold conferences with North and South Korea to let the light dawn upon them that the wars are taking away innocent lifes and the damage is severe. We can also send teams to help out the refugees in Korea and organise a donation of unwanted items for them.

  68. 1) North Korea should not have attacked South Korea, the ministers of each country should have talked things out peacefully, instead of resorting to violence. By war, it would cause alot of unhappiness and chaos amongst the people, and innocent blood would spill.

    2) Trade and relations around the world would be affected, and the people in both North and South Korea would probably be starving. Besides that, should war start, China would step in to help North Korea, and the US would help South Korea. Relations between the US and China might even be affected as they are the major allies of South and North Korea respectively. Economic downfalls would occur, and the whole world might be in a mess.

    3) This altercation will affect Singapore's economy, as we are a small country and rely mostly on trade. As a result, inflation might happen in Singapore, and when people cannot afford things, they will go on strike, protest, etc.

    4) Singapore can help by interfering, to be the moderator and ease the tension between both countries. Meetings can be held, to tell the leaders of each country, how starting this war can lead to many disadvantages, and the whole world would be in chaos. We could also send food and clothings to the needy people people of North Korea to let the North Korean leaders know that we mean no harm.

3.Singapore was not really involved from either sides. However, if the war spread, the allies of the two countries will join in. Singapore is located quite near North and South Korea and China. If either side put pressure on Singapore, Singapore has no choice but to particpate in war which is not wanted by almost everyone including me.

1.I feel that North Korea should not attack South Korea as it will worsen the relationship between the two countries. I think that the two countries should negotiate peacefully and not resolve to violence. If there is war, people from the two countries will suffer great devastation and it will affect other countries.

    2. The conflict will affect other countries such as USA, China and Japan.USA and China’s relationship will be tense as the two countries supports different side. Products from South Korea will not be able to be exported to other countries and we will not be able to visit China anymore. The economy will also be adversely affected too.

3.If there is war, we will not be able to get Korean products and these products will become more expensive. Also, we will not be able to visit South Korea anymore. I will not be able to watch Korean dramas and listen to K-pop anymore.

  76. 1.No, they should not. Problems cannot be solved by attacking South Korea; instead it has worsened the matter and the relationship between them. Innocent lives were also sacrificed.

2.If a war were to start between North and South Korea, the goods in South Korea cannot be exported and this would affect countries that import South Korea goods. Also, as the Korea wave is now trending in most countries, the demand of Korea products has increased. These would probably affect the world's economy.

3.Production of Korean goods would stop and there would not be exporting. Moreover, demands for Korea products have been rising in Singapore due to the influence on Kpop wave in recent years. As Singapore is a small country which depends on trades for income, it would definitely affect our economy.

1.No. North Korea should not have done so as this would have a negative impact on their relationship between North Korea and South Korea. This would also bring about the loss of lives and destruction of the environment.

    2. The import and export of goods to and fro these countries would be greatly affected. Foreign businesses in Korea would face risk of bankruptcy and retrenchment of staff, worse still, closing of businesses. Expats working in korea will also be forced to return to their countries so as to avoid the war. Businesses of airline companies would decline for people would not be keen to travel to korea due to the conflict.

3.Dispute in the two countries would probably cause Singapore to have an economy downturn. This is because, goods imported from Korea would lessen, in turn causing the price of korean products to rise due to the lack of supplies. Also,I would not be able to go to Korea because the country would be in a chaotic situation.

  81. 1. In my opinions, I think that North Korea should not have attacked South Korea because by doing so, it will definitely cause the relationship between North Korea and South Korea to worsen. Therefore, there might be an outbreak of war between North Korea and South Korea. This will cause the people in North Korea and South Korea to suffer and live in fear during the war. Furthermore, this war might also affect other countries like China and United States of America.
    2. The conflict of North Korea and South Korea will definitely affect the world’s economy and also the relationships of different countries because the countries supporting North Korea will definitely be on bad terms with countries supporting South Korea. China, supporting North Korea, will definitely help North Korea to fight and United States of America, supporting South Korea, will definitely help South Korea to defend. Therefore, the conflict between North Korea and South Korea will also cause their respective allies to fight against each other and maybe there will be an outbreak of World War III. Apart from the relationships of the countries, the economy of the World will also be affected because the trading of goods or raw materials between different countries will also be affected. For example, the trading of raw materials or goods from China to allies of South Korea and vice versa.
    3. The conflict of North Korea and South Korea will definitely affect Singapore as some countries from different part of the world will be engaged in the war; hence, the supply of materials to Singapore will be lesser since the countries engaged in the war will focus more on the war. Therefore, Singapore’s economy will be affected too. In the midst of the war, it will be unsafe to travel around; hence, I can only stay in Singapore instead of going oversea during my holidays.
    4. Singapore can help by negotiating with North Korea and South Korea to settle their conflict in a peaceful manner instead of declaring war as declaring war will not bring anyone any benefit.

  82. 1.No,North Korea should not have attacked South Korea,it should try to solve problems through peaceful means instead of using violence.

2.The North and South Korean conflict,if not settled as soon as possible, may create more problems for the world, economically and socially. If the problem escalates and gets out of hand, there is no guarantee that another World War might not break out and peace in the world will not be threatened once more. The conflict has already caused rising tension between China and the US,and these countries had to be cautious in their reactions towards the conflict. The conflict is now a very sensitive issue between certain countries and international relationships can easily be affected if not taken seriously.

  83. 1.No,the North should not have attacked the South for in terms of both economically and militarily, the North would lose out even if they have nuclear weapons. The South has allies such as the US, a powerhouse; even if the North has China as its backup, it will not work for China would not jeopardise its economy for just a country that has a turnout of 3 billion when it can have an ally in South which generates a 140 billion turnout.
    2. The economy will bound to suffer, and when there is a powerhouse such as the US, it will tend to exercise its influence in the area to try to maintain peace. This action will rise tensions in the South China Sea as it will be viewed as an message to the Chinese that the US is still a leader of the world........ In all ways, the consequences and aftermath would be severely damaging to the world.
    3. There are many Korean products in the market and it definitely isn't unlimited, products have to be imported and if it is disrupted by the War, the remaining products would have an inflation in prices, also rice and other necessities will be disrupted for in a war, it is all for himself, Singapore will definitely suffer.

  84. Q1. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. South Korea did not do anything unjust to North Korea. The attack was totally unprovoked and unjustified. North Korea did the attack on purpose, resulting in the loss of four lives, two civilians and two soldiers. There is nothing that these four individuals did that deserve death.

Q2. The impact is that it will be seen as a war between the democratic block and the communist block. The world will be divided between this two countries. Those who are communists will support North Korea while those who are democratic will support South Korea and bring about disunity and disruption of peace in the world.

Q3. Singapore investments in South Korea will be affected. Companies and factories built in South Korea may be destroyed and thus affect the business in Singapore. Goods that are imported from South Korea might be disrupted and therefore might create a shortage of supply to Singapore.

Q4. Singapore has relationships with both the North and the South and Singapore will find itself caught in-between. Singapore may want to play a role of of a peacemaker between the two nations. I hope Singapore will be able to be effective in doing so and i can be proud of my nation.

  85. 1. I feel that North Korea should not attack the South as both countries were already having a terrible relationship and by doing so, the south might declare war on the North. This causes both country to miss the point of having to split the country into 2 in the first place which was to ensure peace instead of war.

2.Firstly, I believe that this will affect the country's economy as goods will have a problem being imported and exported. This dip in the economy will in turn lead to other countries economy to be affected. This will also cause the world to be in chaos as both these countries have very strong allies.

3.This could cause a reduction in korean goods. Thus leading to an increase of price in korean goods affecting the people living in Singapore.

  87. 1. Personally, I think North Korea’s attack on South Korea was superfluous, although it is true that there were already escalating tensions between both countries beforehand. Apparently, there was a previous incident a few months back, in which a South Korean warship went down in the waters while on a routine patrolling mission. Seoul blamed a North Korean torpedo, but Pyongyang denied responsibility. In this case, (Yeonpyeong shelled by North Korea), I think North Korea was using the retaliation with the excuse that South Korea started the incident by firing artillery into disputed waters. North Korea, with Kim Jong Un as heir apparent now, is even more unstable. I don’t think North Korea would seek war by intention, but rather, war by accident, such that it would spiral out of control in favour of North Korea.
    2. Not on a wide scale, I guess, but it is certain that the world is looking keenly at the whole saga. Though there are talks of the involvement of the United States and China leading to a third world war, power figures are likely to understand that there is nothing much to gain for all sides, just as you do not get salted fish from a can of sardines. If the whole thing develops into another World War, however impossible it sounds, peace and stability of the economies in the whole world will be disrupted. The Korean War is definitely something nobody wants to relieve, at least nobody sane does. Diplomatic and economic ties between NK and SK would be damaged. East Asia would be hit especially hard.
    3. The altercation will affect Singapore as Singapore relies largely on trade with other countries. A war, coupled with North Korea’s defiant nuclear programmes, will result in suffering and bloodshed in other countries, which will affect me psychologically. On a lighter note, lovers of Bon Chon chicken wings should take note.
    4. Singapore can step up on her diplomatic efforts and voice out concerns over the belligerent actions of North Korea. Then again, with the political postures of NK (communism) and SK (Democracy) standing firm and looking ahead at the outbreak of war, we never know. Ultimately, this whole conflict should not be treated with kid gloves because China and the United States are in the picture.

  88. 1. No. The war would cause damage to both sides and the relationship between South and North Korea would be further strained. People living in the countries would be affected and they would suffer. War would also implicate other neighbouring countries.

    2. The leaders of China are unhappy with what North Korea did, and the attack damaged the economy of the region as the trade between China and South Korea, and trades between China and North Korea would be affected. If US step in, things may be blown into a full scale war. Global economy would be affected as South Korea is a major country in the Asia and it would not be able to produce goods or continue trading if there is a war.

    3. Since Singapore is highly dependent on its trade with other countries, if the trades between China and South Korea is affected, Singapore would not be able to import or export its goods to and fro btoh countries. Singaporeans that use some South Korea or China products may not be able to get the products in the mean time.

    4. 2.one way, it will definitely affect the world's economy and trade. many products that are imported from these two countries will show a quick downfall as the conflict between these two countries may lead to a bad reputation.
secondly, due to the contrast in a communist country and a democratic countries. countries that are currently on these two sides may slowly feel sympathetic for the countries that governing the same way as they do. and after a while, the world may be arguing over the ways to govern as two blocks, the communist and the democratic.

    3. investments made in south korea may fall and the products coming in from south korea may be abruptly cut. both of these will cause a small economy down fall in singapore and the cycle may repeat itself like what had just happened in 2009. a huge economic downfall in singapore where many has lost their jobs .

Many Korean goods that are highly sought after here are mostly made in South Korea. The recent attack might cause the production of such goods to cease. Some might be disappointed when the supply is low here. Many will also think twice about going there due to the unrest.

Q4. Singapore should take a neutral stand to avoid being involved in future conflicts. Although country self interest is very important, we should still help the innocent people in Korea that are badly affected in this devastating attack. I think that we can send medical teams to treat those injured and render social support to them.

  97. 1. I think North Korea should not attack South Korea as they could settle the matter in a peaceful way. Solving the problem by attacking have destroyed several houses which could be avoided but if they insist to solve the problem in this way, it would only cause more damages. It may not have solved their problems, but it certainly did a lot of damage to their country.

2.The conflict between North Korea and South Korea will definitely affect the world’s economy as the goods in South Korea would not be able to be exported and this would also affect countries that import South Korea goods.

    3. Production of Korean goods would stop and thus there will not be any exporting of goods. Singapore depends on trades for income therefore it will definitely cause an economy downfall for Singapore and the whole world.

    4. Singapore can send some embassadors or peacemakers to help them prevent further conflicts and solve the current conflicts in a peaceful manner without going into war.

  98. 1. No,of course not. North Korea's attack could have meant war between the two countries if not handled appropriately. Furthermore, people living in the border islands are affected and lives were lost.
    2. Many countries are setting their sights on North Korea and many more are criticizing them for igniting a possible World War 3. Some are worried for their relatives and friends residing in these countries while others are concerned about how this incident would affect the economy. Peace negotiations have been suggested. However, there is also an increase in large-scale military drills conducted across various nations.
    3. It sends a warning bell to us. Singapore should take this seriously as it could happen to us too. One way is to step up military defenses. On another hand, I was rudely awakened. I realised I did not know what to do if Singapore does get involved in a war. I will improve my knowledge on that and I guess the best way to start is to find out where is the nearest bomb shelter.
    4. Singapore can work closely with other countries through the United Nations to encourage a resolution between both parties using peaceful measures.

    1. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. Despite the fact that both countries have conflict with each other, but attacking south korea would not have solve anything. On the other hand, it may even worsen the whole matter and it will make it harder to resolve the matter in future.

    2. Not only the two countries, the economy of the world will also be affected as well. Trade between these two countries and other countries will not be so well as both north korea and south korea will be focusing on the attack. Also, the price of the korean products will increase as the supply may decrease. In addition, should the attack on south korean worsen, more countries may be involved either to aid one of the countries or try to stop the war. The more countries that is involved means that more people will be involved and money will be needed for military needs. As a result, the economy of these countries will decline. Since trade around the world is somewhat linked together, a country's declining economy will also affect other countries.

    3. As a country with little land and natural resource, singapore mainly depend on imports of food. The south korea attack will affect singapore in a sense that trade between south korea, north korea and even china will be affected. This in turn will cause the price of certain food products to rise since the supply may be lower or none at all. Also, the north and south korea conflict will also affect us as we will not dare to go to either country for holidays due to the war.

    4. Singapore can help in this conflict by acting as a mediator to help both countries end this conflict in a non-violent way. Also, singapore can also aid the countries by sending food, medical supplies to the countries to help the north koreans and south koreans.

  100. 1)No. After the sinking of the South Korean vessel, the Cheonan, the atmosphere was already very tense. The recent provocation not only tested the US's patience, it also tested the limits of North Korea's main ally, China. The shelling was clearly provocative and silly. The US had displayed its military muscle countless times, but North Korea would not take heed of it. After the shelling, the US sent the aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington to the Yellow Sea to conduct naval exercises. The exercise sent very clear signals to North Korea and since then, there have been no more provocative moves by North Korea. China, North Korea's main ally, had been trying to cool simmering tensions between the two Koreas. China had always been very protective of North Korea because the unision of the two Koreas would mean that the US would be at its backyard. However, the attacks this time have made China take a harder stance towards North Korea.
2)The repercussions of a conflict between the two Koreas would be keenly felt around the world. China and the US are Norh and South Korea's biggest ally respectively. These two superpowers control a large portion of the world's economy, and the financial problems brought about by a conflict could send the world into a financial slump of Great Depression proportions. The world is still slowly recovering from the financial crisis, and any move to shake the financial world will be felt keenly. Countries like Singapore, where the economy is largely dependant on foreign markets, will suffer very heavily. A conflict will also mean a heavy loss of civilian life on both sides.
3)In Singapore, the effects of a conflict will not be a heavy loss of civilian life. Instead, the economy will be affected. Besides the economy, food prices will rocket and inflation will happen. People will have a mad rush for food and then there will be a shortage of food as China is a major producr of food. The lives of the people will take a hit. If the conflict worsens, Singapore will have to defend herself. With Singapore's current military strength, defending the country should not be very difficult.
4)The US and China are both Singapore's allies. If Singapore can hold a meeting between the two giants and sort out the differences between the US and China, a united stand will be taken against the dealing of North Korea. However, Sino-US ties are not fantastic and the US does not seem very keen on engaging China and North Korea in talks. What it wants is a firmer stance by China. The US wants China to talk sense into Kim Jong Il and stand by the international sanctions imposed on North Korea. Singapore cannot do much. The issue is very complicated and it would be best that we do not interfere with Sino-US issues and let the giants sort those problems out themselves.

  102. 1. No. By doing so, the relationship between South Korea and North Korea will only worsen. Innocent citizens in both countries will also be affected.

    2. The economy, imports and exports will suffer badly if the conflict continues. Allies of South and North Korea such as US and China might also get involved and possibly lead to an unnecessary World War III.

    3. Countries all over the world including Singapore may suffer minor recessions when South and North Korea are unable to exports goods anymore. Singaporeans would also have to think twice about wanting to travel to Korea.

    4. Ambassadors of Singapore can try explaining the consequences of the dispute within Korea affecting the entire world and talk the Koreans out of the matter.

    3. Singapore's economy will be affected, which means Singaporeans and includes me too. Other countries will suffer some recessions if North and South Korea cannot export goods anymore.

4.Singapore can try to negotiate terms with both countries and try to come up with a solution which benefits both sides.

  104. 1) No, the attack will lead to the loss of lives and affect both countries' citizens who may not be able to carry out their daily routines due to the attack. The attack will not only strain the ties of both parties and many innocent lives will be taken away. They should not have resorted to violent means.

    2) This will affect the world as China supports North Korea and US supports South Korea and if war commences, it will greatly affect both China and US economy leading to the possible downfall of other countries' economy. China and US are main exporters for many countries around the world and when war begins, it will affect countries around the world when they are unable to get their daily necessities such as food that are usually imported from China or US. Perhaps, if other countries decide to interfere, it might cause a world war 3, thus bringing chaos.

    3) Singapore depends highly on importing and exporting of goods from other countries, thus if the attack brings a war, Singapore might be lacking in rice and water causing inflation and recession. The standard of living in Singapore will be brought down and if recession causes any one of my parents to be fired, it would be difficult to get food and water due to the high prices of food by then. It will not only affect the whole of Singapore but also me.

    4) Singapore can try to send a mediator to help in the tensed situation however Singapore should not interfere too much as both North Korea and South Korea might be unhappy if a small country like Singapore tries to interfere. Singapore can try to send food supplies to North Korea and start to ease the tension from there.

  105. Q1. No, I think North Korea should not attack South Korea as war will only result in sufferings for the people. They were also once a country and they should not start a war to kill their own people.

Q2. Goods from North Korea and South Korea will not be albe to expport out to other countries, causing an economy downfall for the countries. It will also affect China as China is North Korea's major ally, thus affecting the economy as China is very important in the market.

Q3.Yes. Because of the attack, goods from South and North Korea would not be able to be exported to us, thus, making the cost of the remaing goods in Singapore rise. It will then affect me when I buy the goods as I would have to pay a higher price.

  106. 1)No. What is the point of using violence where nothing is solve in the end? It will only increase the disputes between them and the residence in both countries will have to suffer. Furthermore, a war might break out between them. This will definitely cause economic and social problems in both countries.

2)Their trade industry will definitely be affected. If a war really break out between the two countries, they will only have to keep abundant supply of necessities for their people. Hence, their would not be extra to export to other countries. This will in turn affect their economy.
Secondly, this will also cause unhappiness between the Chinese and the Americans as China and USA are the two supporting countries of North Korea and South Korea respectively.

    3) Goods may not be able to be imported into Singapore. Hence, the stocks left in Singapore would definitely have to be sold at a higher price.

4)Sinagpore can act as a mediator and hold negotiation talks for the two countries so that they can find a solution to their conflicts. Also, Singapore can render aid in the form of money, medical or basic mecessitites.

  107. 1) No. North Korea should not attack South Korea. This will destroy the peace previously maintained and worsened the friendly relationship. If it really developed into a war, will also left Koreans with many serious consequences like political instability, death and causality If there are any problems, they should try to negotiate things out first.

    2) Firstly, it would mostly affect the Koreans themselves. Their daily life routine would be severely affected. The people would not be able to go for work, children would not be able to go to school as usual. There might also be death and casualties as innocent people might be also harm during the war. Secondly, the three countries’ economy will be badly affected. Their conflict would affect China, the United States and Japan as their economy would fluctuate as a result of the political instability in Korea.

    3) Local Singapore investors may be affected if the economy is affected by the conflict. My family and I may also be affected, as some goods imported from Korea will rise in price due to production and transportation affected in a case of war. If the condition worsen, it might also be extended to a regional war affecting Singapore. This would mean that the everyday life of residents of Singapore will be greatly affected too.

    4) Even though Singapore is a small country and may not be able to be help much, we should still try to lend our hand in this crisis time. Singapore could send our representatives out to talk the problem out and help to mediate the two parties. Singapore could also play a neutral role and act as a middleman to organize talks or meetings for leaders of South Korea and North Korea to agree to stop the conflict or at least preventing it from escalating into a war.

  108. 1.North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. This war had caused lots of people to lose their homes. It had also caused people to lose their lives. Furthermore, this war had weakened the relationship between North Korea and South Korea.

2.This conflict had damaged not only the economy of North Korea and South Korea, but also the economy of other countries such as China. Prices of goods in North Korea and South Korea will raise and countries that import goods from these countries will need to pay more money to import goods from them as higher tax is being imposed.

3.As Singapore does not have much natural resources, we had to buy them from other countries. If higher tax is being imposed to buy goods from North Korea and South Korea, Singapore's economy will be affected. Goods from these countries will be eventually sold at a higher price and consumer will need to pay more money to buy goods that are from these countries.

  109. 1) No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. North Korea do not have to use military strength to force South Korea to agree to do what they want them to do. Precious lives were lost too.

    2) The economies of countries with close ties to North and South Korea, such as China, will be affected as not much trade can take place. Also, it might lead to a possible World War 3, which many nations are concerned about.

    3) Singapore is concerned about what is happeneing in North and South Korea but is not doing much about it. It affects us as certain prices of food may increase because it cannot be found in the market as easily as before.

  110. 1.If I were the leader of the North Korea, I should not have ordered attacks on South Korea. The attack will worsen the North Korea's relationship with South Korea as well as China. If the war broke out, North Korea would be disadvantaged as he could not get support from most of the countries in the world, including China, which is his greatest ally.

2.Due to the conflict, the economic interests of the asian countries are badly affected. For example, the conflict forbids tradings between South Korea and North Korea. The conflict will also threaten the peace in the Asian-Pacific region. The continuous conflict makes the war between South Korea and North Korea more likely to break out. To ensure the political stability in that region, the US may interfere by sending military force

3.If the conflict worsened, Singapore might have to fulfil its international obligation by sending peacekeepers there. A sanction against the North Korea may be applied by the UN, and Singapore has to ban all the tradings with the North Korea, if there is any. Besides this, I do not think the conflict will have other big impacts on Singapore.

4.As a remote and small country, Singapore dose not play any crucial role in the problem of Korea. However, Singapore can help maintain peace by attending the negotiations and voting for the peaceful solution to the matters.

  111. 1.No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. The relationship between the two parties was already very bad and the attack just worsened it. The problem could have been solved peacefully.

2.Trade and economy would definitely be greatly affected. As not much trade can be conducted in the country, there will be an economy downturn. The relationship of other countries would also worsen as those supporting North Korea would go against those helping South Korea.

    3. There might be a decrease in the amount of goods imported from Korea which would lead to an increase in the price of the products.

  112. 1. No. They were once a country and it would be cruel and meaningless to attack each other as they would bring suffering to their people since their peaceful lives would be disrupted by attacks and assaults.

    2. Their conflict may lead to chaos in the country, thus affecting tourism as well as trading between countries in the negative aspect. This may lead to an economic downfall or crisis in Korea. Allies would come to the rescue and demonstrate their ruthless attacks and firepower. The chaos would not take long to evolve from a regional conflict to a full scale world war.

    3. Firstly, Singaporeans would not be able to travel to Korea for holiday due to Korea's political instability. Secondly, Singapore, as a member state of the UN, may be obliged to send its soldiers to aid South Korea. This may results in loss of lives of Singaporeans during the war which may cause their family members to be in sorrow and grief.

    4. I think Singapore could use its intellectual knowledge to come up with peace treaties which could satisfy both North Korea and South Korea in order to resolve the conflict before it escalates to a full-blown war.

  115. 1. no , i think that north korean should not have attacked south korea as it may cause a huge war to happen and a war is never good as many people would be affected.

    2. the conflict between south and north korea will cause other conflicts to surface among other countries. for example , conflicts may arise between China and USA as china supports north korea whil USA supports south korea, hence when north korea and south korea " fights" China and USA will be invovle and ultimately the whole world will be affected.

3.singapore would also be affected as singapore is just a small country and it cannot afford to offend any country especially China and USA. hence if a war really take place , singapore may have to choose who to support and this would badly affect singapore's relationship to other countries. also many of our goods come from south korea , china and USA hence our goods such as food supply will be affected and this may cause a rise in the price of goods.

  116. 1)No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. They could have settled things peacefully. Moreover, if a war was to take place, it would cause more trouble and cause their relationship to become worst.
    2) If North Korea attacks one country, there will probably be chaos everywhere, all the countries. When there is war between them, the goods they produce and sell will probably not be sold out anymore and this would affect a lot of people, causing famine and killing many people.
    3. Since Singapore is dependent on its trade with other countries, if the trades between China and South Korea is affected, Singapore would not be able to import or export its goods between those countries. Singaporeans that use some South Korea or China products may not be able to get the products in the mean time which may cause some shops in Singapore to be out of stock.

    (Question 2)
Their conflict will result in economy and trade being affected. Also, it may result in negative issues being raised among other countries and result in more unnecessary problems.

    (Question 3)
Singapore will be unable to receive resources and goods from Korea. This raise the need for Singapore to rely on local productions or on other neighboring countries.

  120. 1.NO, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. It would make their relationship tenser and any sign of violence from any side might escalate into a full-scale war. A war will result in many innocent lives lost. Both sides will not benefit from the war.
2.If there would be a war, we would not be able to go to South Korea for holiday. We would not be able to import goods from South Korea. Stocks around the world may be affected by the war and decrease in value drastically and there would be a likelihood of an economical crisis.
    3. The government cannot collect tax from the South Korea goods. As there are no goods coming in, what we have in Singapore will be what everyone in Singapore will be depending on. Prices for the goods will rise because the demand for the goods is strong but there is limited supply. When this happens, the poorer people will not be able to afford them.

  128. 1.No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as there is no sensible reason to. This will cause the relationship between the two countries to be on the rocks and even results in losses on its own side not only on South Korea. It will also affects the other neighbouring countries in the region, both economically and stability. The heated war will also cost lots of lives which is not a reasonable price to pay for an unknown motive or greedy purposes to wage a war on South Korea

2.It will be a great impact on the world as well as for those who lost their loved ones in the midst of the war, because it will crumble the world's economy and stability since China, the world's largest country, is involved. The countries in the neighbouring region of these two countries would have been hit the worst.

3.Well, for one, the goods imported and exported from and to respectively to these two warring states would have most probably declined in huge numbers, resulting in a less income and goods from Korea. It has also made me, and I guess most Singaporeans, to realise how much peace and harmony weigh especially in a microscopic country like ours, and to cherish one another more than before as unexpected things could unfold anytime anywhere.

4.As Singapore is a small nation, it will not be of much help in the resolution of this crisis in my opinion. However, that does not mean Singapore cannot lift a finger to aid in this arguement between North and South Korea. For example, Singapore could send an ambassador to the two countries and attend a peace talk, and try at all means to our best to make both parties come to a peace negotiation, laying down arms and calling off the war, being friends again. That is the least Singapore could do to assist as I believe, my homeland could do much more if it realises its true potential and talents.

    2) This Korean war will mark a start in a war between democracy and communism. When the South and North Koreas start a war, their allies will be dragged into the war and slowly, involves the whole world.

    3) With Korea as a part of Asia, it will certainly affects Singapore and its regional neighbors. Thus, a war in Korea will result in a drop in tourism and will badly affects singapore's revenue.

    4) Since Korea is part of Asia, it should be part of singapore's responsibility to ensure stability in the region. We can sent ambassador to Korea to maintain peace or organize summits to maintain their relationships.

3)Singapore might also be forced to take a stand on this issue and it would also affect the goods that Singapore imports not only from the North and South Korea, but also the other countries.

2.Comflicts between both the koreas might result in war.China is the supporter of North korea while on the other hand,United Stated and Japan are on South korea's side. There would be mush conflict, affecting the whole golbe.Goods from south korea would stop and products from korea would increase in price drastically eg. Kimchi.World economy would also fluctuate and for safety purpose,no one would go to work and result in south korea losing money.Hence, the conflict between both the koreas would be disastrous and dire as it would not only affect both the regions but the whole globe.

Also, they used to be part of the same nation with similar believes hence they should find a way to deal with their conflict peacefully. However, we are not really in the position to say anything as we are just bystanders watching the conflict. Maybe they really do have some hardcore reason that we don't know of to do so.

Q2)This will remind the world to be mindful at all times and be prepared for any attacks anytime. Also, the allies of North and South Korea may be preparing their military defence bases in case of war between the two countries.

Q3)Korea is in Asia, just like Singapore. I think the Singapore government is very concerned with this issue and they will be taking precautions. This also remind Singaporeans of random attacks by other countries and we should be prepared at all times. As for me, it doesn't really affect me as I am not involved in this conflict but I am certainly more aware of the conflicts around the world. It is just like learning Social Studies out of the textbook.

  142. #1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. Violence is never the solution to any problem, and it will only lead to the pain, suffering and misery of the people involved. In fact, violence will bring out even more problems and will affect the entire world.

#2. The conflict between the North and South has got the whole world extremely worried. China, especially, has found herself in a difficult situation whereby the leaders have to contain their resentment against North Korea's actions.

#3. This affects Singapore as now, we have to be more mindful of attacks from possible enemies. We have to be on our guards and take precautions to ensure that we do not end up in the same situation as the North and South of Korea.

  143. Question 1 . I don't think that North Korea should have attacked South Korea because by doing so, it will not only affect the relationship between North Korea and South Korea, it will also strain the relationship between China and USA. Even though they may have some very serious conflicts within one another, I still believe that a war is not necessary since any problem can always be solved peacefully using a softer approach if both North and South Korea are willing to co-operate. Apart from that, by starting a war, they are risking the lives of soldiers and other innocent people. This is not being considerate if the governments are just trying to win a conflict or situation that can be solved by more peaceful means.

Question 2 . By starting that war between North and South Korea, the economy of the regional countries will be affected. This is mainly because during a war, North and South Korea will not be willing to sell their own goods but instead, reserve for their own needs. Even if they still decide to export a small amount of goods, the prices of the goods will greatly increase. This is result in the countries around the world trading with North and South Korea to be affected.

Question 3 . If South Korea does not export goods to us or export them at a very high price, Singapore's economy might be affected since we will have to pay a higher price for the goods. Singaporeans of a lower class will also be the most greatly affected because they might struggle with all the financial problems if the prices rises drastically. Apart from this small issue, I personally feel that Singapore will not be affected much as we do not import much goods from Korea and that we are not involved in any of the conflicts.

Question 4 . Singapore may be able to help by being mediators and talking to the government in Korea. Singapore can try to suggest several more peaceful ways of approaching the conflict and show that a war does not necessarily solve everything. Sometimes, the situation may become worst.

  144. 1) I think that North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. This not only brings about the suffering of the people in both countries but also worsens their diplomatic ties which will eventually lead to many problems like war that greatly affects both their economy and stability and furthermore, it does not do any good to both countries.

    2) As China supports the North Korea and USA is more prone towards South Korea, when conflicts happen between the North and South Koreas, it is also subsequently affecting the ties between China and USA. When these countries get involved and war happens, it will become a regional problem with even more people dying from all parts of the world.

    3) This affects Singapore as Korea imported goods cannot be imported into Singapore and the prices of the goods in Singapore will rise, causing inconvenience to Singaporeans and the people residenting in Singapore.

    3. We will not able to get out necessities from counties that are involved in the war. This will affect our daily lives in the country as it may be dangerous. And we may need to support countries and send out solders for reinforcements.

  151. 1. No, North Korea should never have attacked South Korea-doing so would be an open call for even more resentment and enmity between the two. As the old saying goes, "A cornered beast will fight back"-when pressed to breaking point, a war could very possibly break out and threaten the lives of both soldiers and civilians.

    2. The most immediate impact would be the threat of a nuclear third world war, as nuclear warfare in the Korean Peninsula would not just affect that region itself, and instead cause widespread damage and harm to people. Apart from that, the tension caused by this conflict would affect politics around the world and the ties between various countries that have been pulled into it.

    3. Economically speaking, the conflict could affect imports and exports between Singapore and South Korea, leading to loss in revenue. Singapore may also become a target for attack if the North decides that Singapore is in alliance with its opponents. In that case, the safety of the residents of Singapore will be threatened.

    4. Singapore could act as an intermediary, seeing as Singapore-China ties are relatively strong, and that North Korea does not as yet identify Singapore as an opponent. 3. Should the altercation worsen, the world economies will suffer and so will Singapore's. Should the altercation lead to war, it will hence lead to food shortages in a rush to stockpile to prepare, pushing prices up. This will definitely affect every, myself included.

  157. 1. No,it was never a tactical decision. North Korea must have already known that attacking the south would anger not only their major ally,China, but also many other parts of the region.

    2. Nuclear N.Korea is already a great threat to all parts of the world. Should there be a war between north and south Korea, then world superpowers such as China and US is definatly joining the war due to political ties and alliances. This would greatly affect the economic status of the whole world.

    3. As a part of asia and should the conflict of north and south Korea result in war then Singapore would surely be affected somehow in one way or another. One such way is that goods produced in countries such as China and US would definately become less transported outside of their countries to be traded, in such way it will affect the sea trade of Singapore even if not by much.

    4. I do not think Singapore could help much in the mediation of north and south Korea conflict

In the worst case scenario, this matter might blow up causing a war to break out.

    2) The conflict between South and North Korea would affect the dynamics of the countries supporting them. This would then lead to disruptions in the economy such as trading and stocks.

  162. 1) Should North Korea have attacked South Korea?
    - I believe the attack from North Korea on South Korea could be avoided if the world had put more attention on them. The attack made by North Korea was to show it's determination of fighting for it's own interest. With famine across the country and millions of people suffering, the level of unhappiness among the people is increasing. North Korea government was left with no other choices but to carry out the attack. China, as North Korea's major ally, did not provide North Korea with essential aids like food and other basic supplies. Although North Korea had no other choices, but starting a war is not the solution. It will only destroyed the peace and the stabilty of the country instead of creating a better living condition for the people and saved them from their misery.

    2) What is the impact of the North and South Korean conflict on the world?
    - The conflict between the two nations had nearly brought the world another war. This caused the world to take notice of North and South Korea. The world starting to take notice of North and South Korea's next move as they feared that they themselves will get dragged into the problem. The conflict shown the world that when the people from one country is living in ease, the people from another country might be suffering from cold, sickness or hunger. It raised awareness among the world that peace was in threat. Soldiers died in the conflict and civilians injured, this showed the world how fragile life can be and how lucky they are to have peace. People will learn to appreciate and treasure their life more.

3)How does the altercation impact Singapore and You?
    - People from all around the world are discussing about the conflict between North and South Korea. How the conflict had destroyed peace and stability of two countries and their relationships. However, North Korea and South Korea used to be one country and they separated due to disagreements in their ideologies. Singapore, as a multinational country also possess such hidden problems. This problems will arise if some of the people in the country felt that they are neglected. I believe Singapore should take notice of not only the majority but also the minority. If fairness and justice are archieved, there will be peace and stability. While for me, I will do my part as a citizen of Singapore and just treat all the people around me equally.

    4) How can Singapore assist in the resolution of the Conflict?
    - Although Singapore is a small country and the words it said might not be as powerful as compared to China and USA, it can use it's own example to influence North and South Korea. As a country contains people from all over the world and 4 main races, Singapore has archieved peace and stability in the country and gained world's recognition for it. Teach them how to maintain a harmony relationship with each other by using itself as an example. Actions are louder than words. I believe Singapore can do a part in resolving the conflict.

  163. 1.North Korea should not have attacked South Korea because it not only worsened the situation in both states but also hurt innocent lives in South Korea. Based on my knowledge on the situation , I know that South Korea attacked South Korea because South Korea wanted to prevent the army drill of south Korea from happening in their waters, the north Korea action likely due to wanting to revenge towards south Korea for not listening and adhering to what they say. I feel that their action was very selfish and inconsiderate, north Korea should not have reacted this way , continue the negotiation of the situation of the drill is a better decision that they should have made.
    2. The impact of this conflict not only worsened their relationship but causes other states like America and China relationship to worsen as they have different stand towards the situation. The attack also causes the economy of both North Korea and South Korea to decline, the people in near the borders were also forced to leave their homes because of the possible dangers.
3 .I feel that the altercation did not affect Singapore or myself much but i was still concerned about it as it would affect Singapore’s economy if this triggers a war because of the fact that Singapore is a trading hub , it traded with countries like china which is indirectly connected to the situation.
    4. Singapore could help to resolute this through some of the discussion with both North and South Korea, Singapore can introduce policies to increase the bond between the states , Singapore can tell them the advantages of working together.

  164. 1. No, I strongly disagree with their actions. By doing this, North Korea obviously risked the peace and order in Korean peninsula. Furthermore, the action pushed its strategic ally, China, in to a quandary. The attack is another blunder made by the country’s dictator, showing there is an urgent need for North Korea to be open to the international talks and negotiations.
    2. After the attack which happened in 23 November 2010, the world’s attention was diverted to the two Koreas. Every country focused on the further actions of the two countries. Nowadays, globalisation makes every country closely related with each other. A heated war on Korean Peninsula will surely affect the world economy and a balance of powers in Northeast Asia.
    3. Singapore, as a country in Asia, its development is closely related to other countries in this region. The strife between our neighbours may affect the peace an order in Singapore. Hence, our daily life can be altered, for example the rise in prices of consuming goods.
    4. Singapore is a relatively neutral power compared to the northeast Asia countries such as china and Japan. However, it can also be severely affected by in instability in the peninsula. At this subtle position, Singapore might be the most proper country to take up the responsibility of organising talks among the countries.

  166. 1. No it should not have. Besides causing the suffering of many South Koreans, the attack further strained the already-tense relations between the two countries. In addition, China is put in a difficult situation as it is forced to pick a side.
    2. The conflict has resulted in confusion among the allies of the two countries as they are forced to side one of the countries in an attempt to resolve the situation.
    3. Should a war break out, Singapore would be expected to deploy troops to the battlefield to fight, affecting many Singaporean lives. Also, a war would cause investors to lose confidence in North and South Korea, and Singaporean investments in those countries would suffer losses.
    4. Singapore could mediate for the two countries, urging them to negotiate and resolve their differences and disputes.

  168. 1)I feel that the North should not have attacked the South. This will weaken the already weak ties between the 2 sides thus edging them closer and closer to the brink of a war between the two sides. Furthermore, the South Koreans were only conducting a live firing exercise which produced no harm to the North. Doing it is also a bad thing to the North Koreans as the strong relationship they have with China would deteriorate causing China to be less supportive of the North. Without China, they would loose their main supply of food and energy. Although the North were worried about the live firing exercise conducted,I feel that they were a little paranoid and reacted a little to quickly and harshly. Instead they should have tried to continue discussions and dissuade the South from conducting the firing exercise.

    2) This had quite a great impact on the 2 koreas and the other countries watching this matter closely. On the regional scale, the innocent villagers on the island were forced to leave their homes and flee to the mainland. This also posed as a danger to the villagers' lifes. The Koreans would also be angered by this and would thus take a more aggressive stand against the north. This may also be the start of such future provocative acts in the future and may lead to escalations in the matter of North and South korea. Other countries like USA and China which are watching the matter intently, may be having different opinions on the matter and thus arguing over it. This may serve to weaken ties between the opposing sides.

    3) This may not have much altercation on Singapore now besides people with different opinions arguing over the matter. However, in the future, this matter may cause wars between the 2 koreas. This would greatly impact Singapore and its economy as Korean imported goods would decrease or stop going through as they may need those goods for themselves and would probably have no manpower or time to spare doing such transfers. Certain unique made in Korea goods would thus not be transported resorting in a scrabble for the remaining left and a higher demand for such products. To certain locals, this would mean not bring able to see their stars and idols.

4)Singapore can help in resolutions by joining forces with the UN in aiding efforts to ease tensions between the two opposing sides and resolve this long time conflict. Although this might not have a significant impact on the North, if more such countries joining the efforts, North may buckle under the pressure. Singapore can also try and convince the North to at least stop producing arms and threating the South by being a mediator between the two countries and talk with the leaders of both sides. This would most likely not have much of an impact on either sides but if Singapore comes up with a convincing argument, it can be the talking point between both sides. This may serve to aid further efforts to ease tensions between the Koreans.

  169. 1. No. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as this would cause their relationship to detiorate. Morever, North Korea would have nothing to gain from this attack such as publicity as everyone already knows that Kim Jong-il is succeeding one day. Also, many civilians were innocently killed.

2.Countries would start to take sides on each country such as China "neutrality" about the involvment of the war and the United Nations condenming the actions of North Korea. This could result conflict occuring like the cold war.

    3. This may cause the public to start worrying if there will be any war and investors may be more restrained towards investing as if there would be a war, our economy maybe affected.

    4. Singapore could support UN in any movements that may deter North Korea and try to take peaceful measures against the North Korea.

  170. 1. North Korea should not attack South Korea. They did not consider the feelings of their people when they launched such an attack. Furthermore, it would worsen the relationship between the two countries and it will be their people that suffered the most.

    2. The North and South Korea conflict have many world leaders worried and unhappy, such as China and USA. This will thus affect people all over the world and things will only get more difficult if the world leaders decide to use violence to settle the whole issue. Most importantly, with countries at war, there will be more and more refugees and food shortages, which will put many lives at sake.

    3. This will affect goods imported from Korea and we may not have the privilege of Korean goods in Singapore. If the two Koreas' relationship get worse, Singapore may also be affected for its stand in the conflict, which side are we supporting. Hence, there will be a huge impact on the whole world.

    4. Singapore can send an ambassador down to help to negotiate. i think it is better not for Singapore to take any sides for the time being, we are only a young nation and shouldn't be involved in such conflicts. So the best thing is to maintain peace among the two countries,

  172. 1.Should North Korea have attacked South Korea?
No, definitely not. Conflicts between countries can often be solve by non-violet means. Negotiations can be difficult sometimes due to the self interest of each country, but I believe that countries must compromise to solve varies issues.

2.What is the impact of the North and South
    Korean conflict on the world?
The world cannot risk a third(nuclear) world war. The whole world will be looking at the developements of the North and South Korea's conflict. I strongly trust that the parties involve will try their best to prevent the outbreak of war between the two Koreas.

3.How does the altercation impact Singapore and you?
I believe that Singapore does not support North Korea's action and I feel the same way.

4.How can Singapore assist in the resolution of the conflict?
I believe that it is not up to Singapore to assist in the resolution of the conflict. Singapore is a very small country with a population of only 6 million. Thus, the North and South Korea might feel that we have no right to say anything. Therefore, we should stay humble and not comment on anything unless we are asked to.

    1. No, they should not. Conflicts between countries are very common and all these conflicts should be resolved in a peaceful way so that problems will not arise. After all, arguments only bring suffering to the world.

    2. We should not have the next "World War 3" It definitely has a great impact on the global scale. If they declare war, others will follow and join allies again. We must not let history repeats itself.

    3. It definitely has a great impact on Singapore as we have strong ties with these countries. If the Koreans start to fight amongst themselves, China and the USA will get involved with all these and start war too. In the end, Singapore suffers as it faces a dilemna to take cues from whom. However, it does not really have a great impact of me as yet as I believe that I cannot help much in terms of politics.

    4. Singapore can surely assist in the resolution of the conflict as we maintain strong ties with the USA and China. If the leaders of Singaore step forward to pacify the matter, it may work too. Afterall, this is for the whole world.

  174. 1. No. By attacking south korea, north korea is actually making things even harder for them in future by further aggravating both countries' relationships.Since both countries are neighbours, they would need each other's help often. Peace can never be achieved through violence, and both sides have to talk things out and compromise.

2.The attack has caused fear among people all over the world as they are worried of a possibility of a third world war. The world has come so far since the second world war by maintaining good relations with different countries to prevent war. if a third world war occurs, everything would go down the drain.

3.Singapore's relationship with either countries will be affected if we take sides and if we had to send out reinforcements we would be put in a spot. Besides, singapore will lose confidence in investing in south and north korea due to the frequent attacks that cause countries to be unstable.

    2. People around the world are unhappy with the fact that there is a conflict between North and South Korea. War is not an option and should be condemned.

    3. Singapore definitely does not agree with what North Korea has done. Singapore's economy may also be affected adversely.

1.North Korea should not attack South Korea. The attack on South Korea may weaken their already weak ties, anger the South Koreans, and trigger an all-out war between the two Koreas. When war happens, both sides suffer. Other countries may also be affected. Therefore, North Korea, instead of attacking South Korea, should try to resolve the dispute peacefully.

2.If there is a war between both Koreas, trade may be cut off. Japan and China will also be affected because they are situated near the two Koreas. China may side with North Korea, which is a Communist country, while USA may side with South Korea, a democratic country. If China and USA take a different stand, more arguments may arise. Old disputes may be brought up and the relationship between the two major countries will become more tense.

3.Singapore's trade and relations with the two Koreas may be affected. For example, if Singapore decides to side with South Korea, North Korea will be unhappy. The relationship between Singapore and North Korea will become strained.China, who will most likely be supporting North Korea, may be displeased with Singapore as well. If the argument between North Korea and South Korea gets out of hand, war may break out. When this happens,I,along with other tourists, will not be able to visit South Korea. Korean food such as kimchi may also become harder to get or buy.

4.Singapore can work with the other countries in the UN to help North Korea and South Korea resolve their disputes peacefully, perhaps by organising meetings and talks.

  177. Question 1.
In my opinion, North Korea should not attack South Korea. They could have tried other approaches to resolve the conflict between them instead of declaring war. Starting a war will not only result in many casualties, but also lead to a negative impact on the world economy. They should have learned from the World Wars that took place during the last centuries and understand that the result of war is never a pleasant one. Hence, I find that having a war is definitely not a good option.

    Question 2.
The impact which North and South Korean had conflict on the world was huge and that many were now very upset over this issue. The possibility of there being a war had risen fear among the people, not just the Koreans. The fact that the Chinese are giving their support to the North Koreans also inculcated the idea that there is a possibility of World War III. People should not retrace the footsteps and the mistakes which the people had made in the past.

    Question 3.
War will definitely affect Singapore negatively since Singapore has strong ties with the countries which are involved in this issue. In my opinion, Singapore will still have difficulties faced in terms of the economy and lives of people even though the outbreak of the war does not have an immediate impact on her.

    Question 4.
Singapore can do a part in assisting the resolving the conflict. I believed that many other countries also have their stand and does not support the idea of having a war. When there's a will, there's a way. I believe that together, the national politics will definitely come up with a long-term solution that could settle the disputes in North and South Korea and that this could prevent the outbreak of an unwanted war.

  178. 1. North Korea should not have attacked on South Korea. Launching an attack will only strain the relationship between these two countries further. In addition, if war occurs due to this attack, there will be heavy losses from both sides and no one will stand to gain anything. Most importantly, the people of these countries will suffer the most if a war was to be waged. Imagine the death of thousands or even millions of men who will be fighting in the battle or even the death of innocent children. Wouldn't it break your heart to see so many deaths just because of one conflict that could not be resolved. Another point is that this attack will only affect the economy of both countries negatively.I believe that North Korea could have taken a more peaceful approach and reach a certain level of consensus with South Korea.

2.We have seen the impact of World War 1 and 2 on the world. All these wars broke out largely due to the fact that conflicts between certain countries could not be resolved. Hence, the conflict between North and South Korea could actually signify a start of another world war, another era of suffering. World wars had affected the people's lives greatly, not just the people trying to cope with the loss of their loved ones, but also governments trying their best to rebuild their nations and bounce back onto their feet.In the article, we already see that China is sandwiched between these two countries and she could not help any one of them for fear of war. For instance, if China were to support South Korea, most probably it will be caught in a crossfire between the North and the South and who can ensure that North Korea will not cut off any diplomatic or trade relations with her?

3.I think that this conflict will definitely affect Singapore and us as the diplomatic ties between us and the North and South Koreans will be strained if we were to take sides to help one of them in the conflict. We will be caught in the middle and may actually be caught in a war that we did not start on our own.Economic-wise, businessmen and investors may actually have their business or investment wi9thdrawed or collapsed if a war were to occur.

4.Singapore can do its minor part by working with the bigger countries or regional countries to help mediate the relationship between North and South Korea. However, there is still some restriction as to what we can do. We are a small country and even though we are considered successful, we cannot guarantee that as mediators, the Koreans will listen to what we have to say and help. Their unhappiness with each other dates back to a long time and there is a probability that even if we managed to pacify one of them with a rather justifiable peace treaty, the other may still be unhappy with our solution as no treaty could ensure that both sides stands to gain equally much. Just take the example of the Treaty of Versailles, did it ensured that World War will never break out again. The answer is no, World War 2 still broke out. Hence, I think that indeed, we can work with the big nations to help resolve this conflict but there is a limit as to what we can do and say.

  179. 1)No.This would cause further conflict between the 2 countries.Instead, peaceful ways of resolving the situation would be beneficial to both parties involved in the situation.Furthermore, the are such a close neighbor, they should compromise each other.Attacking would only caue both countries to be in a dire state and nothing is going to be gained for both.

2)It will cause a disturbance in the peace of the region and even the world, the effects would be devastating. If a fight break out between them, the people that is mostly severely affected are the locals. The locals will be the one who suffer the most of all.The formation of allies when a war starts would cause the situation to be even more chaotic.History will hence repeats itself and just like the world wars in the past, many will be suffering.

3)The relationship with either of the two countries will be on the line.Korean relationship with Singapore in terms of,economy and diplomatic ties will be strained. There will be an economy downturn, and Singapore's economy will be affected badly and then will be cut pay and dismissal of workers.People in the family might be affected which would hence cause me to in turn become affected too.

4)We can try to be the building the bridge among the two countries to come to a peaceful resolution which hopefully will be able to benefit both parties interests. The importance of the whole situation is to maintain peace in the two countries and also for the peace of the world.

  180. 1) No, North Korean should not attack South Korean. This is because rather than solving problems violence usually creates much more problems. And as North Korean and South Korean have already been fighting for a very long time, by attacking the South, North Korean is only enraging the South, making their relationship worse.

    2) If they really start a war, it will first affect the countries around them such as Japan, China and even countries like Singapore. Other countries may also have to join in order to stop the war or help one side to win. Many people may also lose their lives as a result of a war. A war will also slow down development of affected countries around the region.

    3) It may not affect me directly however, the army may have to join the war and innocent mans may lose their lives.

    4) Singapore can help each side understand the other better by sending ambassadors to both sides. The ambassadors can help relieve tension by educating people about how they can avoid wars. Singapore can also give the UN support to counter the problem.

  186. 1:
No, North Korea should have most definitely not attacked South Korea. The relationship between South Korea and North Korea were never strong initially and by attacking South Korea, North Korea are putting themselves into a worse position as South Korea might retaliate in a strong force and this may eventually lead to war. As the stereotypical imagery of the war, there will be meaningless deaths, deaths of people who have their futures in front of them. The civilians are all innocent people who merely abide by the government laws and the war will place the innocent civilians into a precarious position. This may result in the relapse of both of the countries as their country will be deeply weakened in terms of the economy, manpower and education.
North Korea should have used diplomatic actions to express themselves over their displeasure. I am sure that North and South Korea could have gone through this particular situation in a diplomatic manner without involving the lives of innocent people.

    2:
The starting of the war will alert other countries of the complications that were soon to be taken place. Some countries may remain impartial to the situation and lay low as they do not want to be caught up in the mayhem. However, allies of South Korea would most likely take a stand and to support South Korea. A strong ally of South Korea is the USA. It would be most likely that USA will step into the war, taking the side of the South Koreans. North Korea's strongest ally would then be China. It would be likely that China would step in and help North Korea but this action is seriously doubted, as implied from the article, that China's support and patience towards the North Korea was slowly but surely taking a turn for the worse. This will send the world into a frenzy as countries would all be wondering whether they might be brought into the war and that their homes might be in danger.
Also, should a war occur there would be a stop in goods productions and the importation of goods will be temporarily put to a halt as most manpower would go to the war. This would then put the economy of both North and South Korea into the danger zone. Countries relying on these countries may also be put in the risk of decline and they will have to change the areas of where they get their sources from.

    3:
The altercation between North and South Korea would bring about an impact on Singapore which then leads to our lives. Should the two countries really break out into a war, production of goods from both countries would decline and eventually brought to a complete halt. As a result, imported goods from Korea would be scarce and the price of these rare goods would have a dramatic increase. Singapore's economy would then suffer due to the need to pay a higher price for the goods. However, I think that the Singapore will not suffer that great of an impact from the conflicting countries as we do not depend on these countries for our resources. Singapore only import goods from the countries and the amount of goods were not that much of a high level. Therefore, I think that Singapore and I will not suffer that great of an impact due to North and South Korea.

    4:
Singapore may send ambassadors to the conflicting countries and act as mediators, convincing the countries that a war is not the way out of the conflict that they have. In fact, it will bring about an adverse effect and the relationship between the two countries would take a turn for the worse. Singapore could help the two countries to compromise with each other in order to seek for minimum peace, so that the actions of the leaders of the countries will not bring harm towards the innocent citizens. Singapore should not take sides but instead, insist upon harmony between the two countries as this is for the sake of citizens living in both countries.
I believe that the political figures in North and South Korea would also want the best for their countries and they would understand the drastic consequences of wars.

Violence from North Korea will only enrage Sounth Korea even further. Hence, they should try to solve the matter using more peaceful methods.

    2) A serious war could break out from this as other countries may start becoming allies. This has happened in the two world wars, and it could happen again. Also, locals in the area will be affected, and fear may be spread among them.

3)People in Singapore mostly look down upon North Korea's actions, but we may get affected as we have close ties with supporting countries like China and the US.

Since they are from the same country, they should stand united and work together to bring the country to greater heights.

    2. It could lead to a world war because of the allies of North Korea and South Korea like China and USA. This will also cause a conflict between China and USA too.

    3. Singapore would probably not be as affected as other countries, but it is undeniable that it will affect us to a certain extent. Goods and resources from Korea will not be able to be imported to Singapore, causing a rise in demand for them, and this will affect our economy.

    1. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. This is so as the matter could be solved without violence. Since both places are neighbours, thery should not attack each other. The people in the countries will be affected and suffer.
    2. The attack will cause an economy inbalance in the world. As China and the United States of America are involved in the matter, they will be affected. Other allies may join in the fight and a war may occur.
    3. I do not think that the attack will affect Singapore.
    4. Singapore can help by sending representatives there to be a peacemaker and help to calm things down a little.

    1. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea. North Korea started a series of taunting actions trying to provoke South Korea, attempting to start a war.

    2. War will not only cause the economies of both countries to decline and their people to suffer but will also cause damage to the planet with the usage of nuclear weapons. Countries nearby like China and Japan will also be affected by the possible war. Bombing could also cause their boundaries to receive damages. The nuclear effect will cause the future generations born to have various imperfections physically. The world economy that is slowly recuperating from the previous economic downturn will also be damaged once again.

    3. The altercation will cause South Korea's economic to deteriorate and indirectly affecting Singapore's economy for Singapore actually has a close trade relationship with South Korea. Moreover, the altercation will create chaos and make it more difficult to maintain peace. This effect does not just apply to North and South Korea but the entire world as the entire world hopes for peace and would try to prevent the war. Terrorism could occur more easily in such situations. Terrorism could affect anyone and everyone, including myself.

    4. Whenever Singapore is asked on opinions regarding this issue, Singapore could take a stand on what is right.

  191. 1. No, North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as this might cause a war between the two countries.

    2. The conflict bwteen North Korea and South Korea would cause an economy downturn as Korea has an important part to play in the economy. Should any war start, trade and economy might worsen as resources and baisc necessity are needed for the 2 countries.

3.The alteration will definitely affect Singapore's economy first as Singapore works with Korea and importing goods from both parts of North Korea and South Korea. Without the imports from these two countires, there will be a greater demand of goods from Korea. Other than North Korea and South Korea, China will also be affected since it is one of North Korea's major ally. Then, economy in Singapore will also be affected by China.

The alteraction will not affect me directly as a Singapore student, but as years pass and this conflict does not end, I will be affected if I am going to work or live in parts of Korea in future.

    4. Singapore can send representatives to both North Korea and South Korea to help solve the dsipute between themselves. Hopefully, both countries will be more accomodating and not be tempted to start another bombing again or even a war.

  192. 1) North Korea should have attacked South Korea, especially over trivial matters such as military drills. I believe that in this day and age, we should show more trust in each other and work together to achieve common goals.

    2) When situations get too tense, a war may spark off. This will have many varied impacts on the world. It will affect the economy of countries with close economic and trade relationships with North Korea and South Korea. It may also cause superpowers to be involve in the conflicts, with China being an ally of North Korea and the Unites States of America being an ally of South Korea. This may result in many casualties.

    3) It will affect Singapore's trade relationship with South Korea. With the popularity of South Korea's culture in Singapore, I believe it will also affect teenagers who are interested in South Korea's culture.

    4) Singapore should attempt to convince both countries to settle the problem diplomatically. Singapore should try to be a sort of "middleman" which clears up any miscommunication between both countries and attempt to ease tensions between them.

  193. 1.No.I think that North Korea should not attack South Korea as it might create chaos and affect the people in both the North and South Korea, resulting in war.

2.Indeed, should a war start between the two countries, the world would surely be affected greatly in terms of the economy. The war will surely cause an economy downturn as many industries and factories will be closed down due to the war, either due to damage or insecure economy. Besides economy, people in the two countries will also be forced to leave where they are likely to seek refuge in other countries and thus, the world will more or less be affected in a way or so.

3.The altercation will indirectly affect Singapore in terms of its economy. Singapore, being a small country with such a high population depends alot on food imports, especially those from China. The altercation will cause people to mad rush for food since the food prices will go up higher should there be less imports and inflation might occur.

4.Singapore can take the initiative by acting as a mediator to try to convince them to stop such disputes, by explaining to them how their unnecessary conflict could affect every single one of us worldwide.Maybe, a treaty can be signed to avoid anymore conflicts and that the treaty may consist of terms that North Korea and South Korea can benefit from one another.

  194. (1)No.South Korea should not attack North Korea as this could start a war between the two countries ,or even the World War 3 !
(2)The people from North and South Korea are affected the most by the conflict. They lived in terror as a war could break our at anytime. This discourages many investors to invest in Korea, hence affecting the economy.
(3)Though the altercation does not affect Singapore now ,it will when the altercation turns into a war. When the war break out, the allies of two countries ,USA and China will be involved. The economy of Singapore will be affected as China is fighting a war.
(4)Singapore could send representatives to both countries to resolve the conflict.

  195. 1) No. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as it will affect the economy of both countries negatively.

2)The conflict between the two countries have caused the people living at the borders living with terror and thus leading them not able to carry on their lives normally. Tourism may also be adversely affected, leading once again to an economy downturn.

3)An altercation will spell trouble for countries like Singapore which rely mostly on trade with other countries. As the demand for authentic korean products are high now, there might not be enough supply causing a rise in price for the products. Therefore, prices of other products might rise again.

4)Diplomats are mainly for establishing good relationship between countries. However, in situations like this, Singapore can send a few representatives, or rather, diplomats to both North and South Korea. Thus, we can clear up misunderstanding between two countries and maintain stability in food prices, and the global market.

  196. 1.North korea should not have attacked South Korea over such trivial matters such as the military excersises. I do not believe the South meant any harm with the excersise; retaliating in scu a drastic manner will only sreve to damage the North reputation further and worsen diplomattic relations with other countries, especially the South and China.

2.The recent conflict between the North and the South has caused much distress to many, not just the people of the Korean Penisula. Everyone is afraid of the breakout of a war between both countries; this war might escalate in to a major war as allies are dragged into the situation. A war will also damage world economy severely.

    3. The squibble between does not really affect the countries in this region as of now. However, should this altercation escalate into a war and as more and more countries are dragged into the war, Singapore may eventually also feel the effects of the war. We may be forced to join in on one side and trade, which is one of Singapore's greatest sources of revenue, will be adversely affected.

    4. I believe the best thing Singapore can do to resolve this conflict is to do nothing. First of all, we are not directly related to this matter. Stepping in will only involve Singapore in something needless. Also, we do truly understand the situation there; entering without full knowledge of the current situation may instead lead to even more tension. Going in may also be seen as taking sides by either sides.

  197. 1. North Korea should not attack South Korea as this would affect not only the economy of the country but also the life of the people in the country as well. They should find other ways to solve the conflict instead of attacking one another.

    2. Many countries around them are affected, the people living in those countries are also living in fear. tourists were unable to visit the country, and if a war break out, many flights could be affected.

    3. This would result in another way, disturbing the peace of the country eversince WW2. Such war also affect Singapore as Singapore might lost some of its imported goods from Korea.

    4. Singapore could help both country organise a peace discussion or sign a treaty so that the conflict can be solved without a war happening.

  198. 1. No. North Korea should not have attacked South Korea as it will affect the economy of both countries and would cause meaningless killing and slaughter.

    2. people will suffer. Traders will not do tradings in korea and the economy will get worsen. Products are not able to be imported nor exported.

    3. Singapore could send people to be mediators of this problem and help settle the issue without war or senseless fighting

    4. This would impact Singapore as the Singapore would be unable to trade or export things to korea and korea would not be able to export or import things from singapore
